The Covenant Eyes iPhone® VPN isn't like a typical VPN—it acts as a DNS filter. It works behind the scenes to check and filter websites using DNS (Domain Name System).
What does DNS mean?
Think of a domain like a website name, like Google.com or CovenantEyes.com. The DNS translates those names into IP addresses, which help your device find where the website lives on the internet.
Here is what happens when your iPhone® attempts to access a website:
- Our system checks the website name (domain) against a list of sites that may contain explicit or harmful content.
- If the website is on the list, it might be blocked based on your account settings.
- We also log and show the attempt in your Victory feed so your chosen Allies can see and support you.
- The filtering works automatically across all apps and websites on your iPhone®.
How do you use my data?
We use the data from your device's attempts to visit websites in these ways:
-
We check each domain name your device accesses against a list of explicit or dangerous sites.
-
We send the domain name to a DNS service so it can turn it into an IP address (this doesn't include any information other than the domain name).
- If the domain name is explicit, we log the site name and time and show it as Highlighted Activity in your Activity Feed in the Victory app. Your chosen Allies can view this and support you through the Victory app.
