Other Browser Extensions

Would it be possible to create browser extensions for Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome?  I do not use the Safari Browser and have to use Edge for work.  I saw from another post that the Safari app extension is used to take screenshots of the app.  If I don't use the Safari browser, then I guess the screenshots are useless?  If screenshots could be taken in Edge or Chrome with an extension, I feel that would solve a lot of problems.  Of course, I may be misunderstanding what the extension is used for.
