Tethering With Android Running Covenant Eyes?

Matthew Ford

Am I able to use the hot spot feature on an Android phone running Covenant Eyes to give other devices access to the internet through the phone's cellular connection?

I have tried this and haven't been able to get it to work. My suspicion is that the CE VPN prevents this from working.

    Hello Matthew!

Thanks for your question. And I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulty using your hotspot feature. After consulting with my other techs they have been able to get the hot spot feature on their Android devices to work just fine while Victory Shield is installed. Some do so regularly.

If you are still experiencing issues I might recommend testing by having your filter guardian turn off your filter and leave you on just Screen Accountability to see if doing so affects your phone's ability to utilize the hotspot feature. It shouldn't, but that's the only thing I can think of that our software would affect on an Android.

For reference for others I would like to state that I did get this to work. I disabled "Allow clients to use VPNs" and the tethering immediately started working. I earlier assumed that needed to be active to forward the tethering traffic over the Covenant Eyes VPN. It should also be noted that I am currently running CalyxOS which is an alternative build of Android, and not an official Android build.
