Unsearched websites showing up as being searched then blocked.

Jake Dubransky
So at the end of the day, I check the report, and these three websites sometimes pop up, even though I didn’t even search them up. Is this an error of some sort?

    Hello Jake,

Thanks for your question. For clarification, is it saying that these websites were actually searched by you? Or merely accessed by the device? Also, what are these websites? Are they saying that these sites are bad and flagging them? Is this happening on an iPhone® or iPad® device?

I ask these questions because it sounds like you might be getting flagged URLs showing up in your report. If so, are they appearing as a Likely-Explicit DNS connection?

The Likely-Explicit DNS Connection report section means Covenant Eyes detected a pornographic or explicit domain on an iPhone® or iPad®. A domain is a website, like ad.google.com or nike.com. If two or more Likely-Explicit DNS Connections are identified or blocked in less than 5 minutes it will trigger a Highlighted Event in the Summary of the Activity Feed.

Please note that Covenant Eyes cannot determine if someone has intentionally viewed Likely-Explicit DNS Connections because some apps generate them in the background, display pop-up ads, and refresh content without the user's knowledge or consent.

You can attempt to prevent DNS Connections by:

    1. Using Apple's device controls, Screen Time, to limit adult content and keep users from uninstalling our Safari Extension.
    2. Using the Safari app as much as possible so we can screen-capture activity via the Safari Extension.
    3. Turning off Background App Refresh for most apps to reduce unnecessary website traffic in the background. But leave it on for Covenant Eyes.
