How do parents change Screen Time settings with Family Sharing on their iPhone®?

Before You Begin


  • About Family Sharing: Parents can use Family Sharing to remotely set and control Screen Time (Apple's free parental controls) on their kids' devices.

  • Set Up Family Sharing: If parents haven't set up Family Sharing, refer to Apple's support article to do so and then return to this article to set up Screen Time.

  • Set up Screen Time Without Family Sharing: You can also set up Screen Time directly on the child's device without Family Sharing, but you can't control their settings remotely.

Change Screen Time Settings with Family Sharing


  1. The parent should open the Settings app on their iPhone® or iPad® (not the child's iPhone® or iPad®).

  2. Tap "Family."

  3. Tap the name of the family member you want to change Screen Time settings for.

  4. Tap "Screen Time."

  5. Now, you will see Screen Time settings for the child's devices. We suggest parents set up Screen Time to control apps and content.
